President's Welcome

You Know Maria…

Picture of Sr. Laureen Fitzgerald If you live in the Capital District and you've ever had a parent in a nursing home, been a patient in a hospital, enrolled a child in nursery school, needed occupational therapy, or visited a doctor's or lawyer's office, you've probably met Maria, a Maria graduate that is. The community has come to depend on the skills and services of the college's graduates, most of whom continue to live and work in the Greater Capital District.

Because Maria has stayed true to its teaching mission - Education for Service - since its founding in 1958, the college's ties with the community have grown increasingly stronger. Maria takes very seriously its responsibility to continue its mission so that the future needs of the community can be anticipated and met.

In addition to being focused on serving the needs of the Capital District at large, Maria is committed to making its programs available to as many potential students as possible. While emphasizing traditional classroom and laboratory instruction, it has also been a pioneer in the design of unique degree programs and flexible scheduling options, including its Weekend College. The non-traditional student - so often excluded from attaining educational goals by age, family responsibilities or work schedules - has come to depend on the availability of a Maria education. I invite you to visit our intimate campus and learn more about Maria, and I welcome the opportunity to meet you personally.

Faithfully,

Sister Laureen's Signature
