Student Success Story: Lesia Alford

“Earning a Paralegal Certificate at Maria College has prepared me for a new career in the legal profession.  The assignments and deadlines contributed to the rigorous program, which has helped to simulate real-world experiences.  Presently, I am interested in medical malpractice and personal injury law.   These newly acquired skills have enhanced my perspective and I am ready to move forward.”

-Lesia Alford, Paralegal Certificate Program, 2016 (Dean's List)

Lesia Alford graduated in May 2016 with a Maria College paralegal certificate.  She started last fall (2015) and completed the weekend program within a year.  She came to Maria with an academic background in health services administration and public health epidemiology from Florida International University. Her goal was to transfer her scientific knowledge and research skills from public health into the legal field. A temporary, short-term job opportunity at an Albany law firm during the 2015 holiday period coordinated by her Maria Professor and the Career Services Center reinforced her decision that pursuing a second career combining health and law was a smart plan.
